October is Child Abuse Prevention MonthTuesday, October 01, 2013
Keeping children safe is a shared responsibility. During the month of October, Peel Children’s Aid joins children’s aid societies across the province, building awareness of the problem of child abuse in our community and ways to prevent it.
“Last year we had the opportunity to work with almost 10,000 families in Peel,” says Rav Bains executive director, Peel Children’s Aid. “We received about 12,000 calls from concerned citizens, nurses, teachers, and the police about children who might be in need of protection which shows that everyone plays a role in keeping children safe and building healthy families.”
What can you do to prevent child abuse from happening in our community? “First and foremost, if you are worried about a child or youth, please call children’s aid,” says Bains. “On October 18, Peel CAS, along with other CAS’s in the province is encouraging the community to GO PURPLE by wearing something purple to show support of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
